So what about the 2008 carnival:
Last years Syston Carnival was held on a SUNNY! Saturday afternoon on 30th August 2008. There were 24 charitable stalls on the Central Park raising much needed revenue for their organisations most of which were local to Syston and benefiting Syston residents. In addition there were fair ground rides for the children, Charlie the Clown who spoke to just about everybody on the park, there were the Morris Dancers who gave a great performance and involved a number of children in a performance in the arena, we had a display from our local Fire Service on the dangers of chip pan fires and how to deal with such an event and in keeping with the theme of fire there was a Fire Eater who also juggled with knives, walked on stilts and circled the arena on a tricycle.
The parade, while small in number, went around Syston headed by Thurmaston Scout Band, followed by the Carnival Queen and her attendants, the Syston Friendship Group, Danha Walsh, Military vehicles and the local Fire Engine, escorted on foot by the local Air Cadets who also undertook a street collection.

The best decorated shop competition was also supported again this year as well as the Children's Fancy Dress.

All in all a successful day.

The Syston Carnival Committee would like to thank ALL those who supported the Carnival in whatever way either by time, donations of prizes for the Prize Draw ( thanks to 40 local shops and companies). We would also like to give particular thanks to Rob Knapp who at the last minute donated his services and his lorry for the day enabling the Queens Float to appear and with supporting the background logistics of transportation equipment.
