Tilton Green
On the 3rd July 2008 Tilton on the Hill and Halstead Parish Plan group was chosen as one of two Climate Friendly Communities in the county. As a result the group will join the 'Act on CO2' campaign run by ENABLE (Environmental Action For A Better Leicestershire).
As 'Tilton and Halstead Climate Friendly Community' is a bit of a mouthful, and 'Tilton and Halstead CFC' does not seem appropriate, the group has settled on the name 'Tilton Green'.
Enable recognise that communities can play a vital role in tackling climate change and can help to make it possible to mitigate and adapt local impacts of climate change and bring positive benefits to the community.
ENABLE wants to support the the community to help them to:
- Set up community groups of climate change volunteers
- Raise awareness on climate change issues
- Encourage behaviour change initiatives
- Enhance community capacity building
- Take part in community training programmes
- Develop and implement Carbon Reduction Programmes
- Share best practices
The community will receive the following resources to help them to get under way:
- £500 start-up fund to each chosen community
- Free Workshops on the project launch day
- The support of ENABLE Officers and wider technical advice team
- Free resources to raise awareness of climate change issues
- Access to a pot of money to help towards their projects
- Free one day community training programme
- Invitations to other climate friendly events
- Free Training for two volunteers to become Climate Change Champions
