BRITAIN'S FIRST WINDMILL

The earliest documented windmill was at Wigston Parva, Leicestershire. Charter 1137 states that the Manor and its Windmill was given to Reading Abbey and transported there. The St Mary's Church in Wigston Parva was built approximately 40 years later on the same grounds.
