The Last Will and Testament of John Dawes (C19)

About John Dawes

Information about the Daws family, and the will, kindly submitted and transcribed by Margaret and Tom Shaw

The date on the will is 20 August 1741, John Dawes died in 1743. In 1784 the administration of the will was finally sorted on the death of his daughter Sarah Dawes. His grandson was the Reverend John Dawes Ross, who ended his days as the vicar of Syston, but he was also a master at the Free Grammar School, and a friend of John Nichols. None of his daughters married until after his death and all to wealthy widowers!
The church at Newton Harcourt was by standards quite new, hence the fact that the early ones are buried at Wistow.
