5th Annual User Group Event (2008)

The event was held on Friday 14th March at Beaumanor Hall and was the biggest event in the website's history with users from across Leicestershire Villages filling the hall.

The event was opened by Ray Smith, the Programme Manager, followed by an update on developments by Chris Poole, the Website Content Co-ordinator. The main part of the day though included talks from John Dyson (East Norton), Stephen Butt (BBC Radio Leicester), Louise Hampson (Newton Burgoland & Swepstone), Jane Tindle (Barrow Upon Soar), Toni Smith (Burton Overy), Eric Orbell (Great Glen) and Darshna Naker and Bharti Acharya (Birstall library).

There was an opportunity for guests to win a limited edition Leicstershire Villages umbrella by competing in the multiple choice quiz and congratulations to Lynne Brydon Graham , Pam McMorran and Graham Davis for knowing which pub was the first to serve "chicken in a basket" in Leicestershire!

The climax of the event, however, was the Village Oscar ceremony with the prizes awarded by Mike Jones, Chairman of Leicestershire County Council.
