Speakers at the 5th Annual User Group EventJohn Dyson - East Norton
John, who is the Site Administrator for East Norton and the Chairman of the Leicestershire Villages User Group, spoke to the group about different case studies from across the county. He talked about the way that the website has been used by different people and the impact that it has had on people from right across the globe. Stephen Butt - BBC Radio Leicester
Stephen talked about the joint project between Leicestershire Villages and BBC Radio Leicester, where the website helped the BBC to support its 40th anniversary. The BBC encouraged listeners to go and take photos from their community on the day and submit them to Leicestershire Villages. As a result of this we had over 400 images submitted to the site and you can view them all by viewing the BBC Gallery. Louise Hampson - Newton Burgoland & Swepstone
Louise (and Teddy) introduced a collection of the photographs she has submitted to the Leicestershire Villages gallery. Louise has been really active taking exceptional images from across the county. Louise also showed some of the images that she has used to create the St Peter's Pixels pages for the church in Swepstone. Jane Tindle - Barrow Upon Soar
Jane talked about the development of a history project in the village, in order to gather historical photographs from the community. Jane worked with John Nurse and Barrow library to hold an event in the village inviting everyone to attend and bring along their images. You can now see a large collection of historical images on the Barrow pages. Toni Smith - Burton Overy
Toni has been an editor on the site for several years and she has been adding content to several villages. She has been working with a group of people from the U3A in Great Glen to transribe the monument inscriptions in Burton Overy. This has become an extensive project and one of the best examples of monument inscription transcriptions on Leicestershire Villages. Toni demonstrated the project at Beuamanor Hall. Eric Orbell - Great Glen
Eric introduced users at the event to the fantastic war memorial project that he has worked on in Great Glen. He has done research on every person listed on the memorial and has provided a short history of each of them as well as details of the battles they were involved in and the medals that they received. Darshna Naker & Bharti Acharya - Birstall library
Darshna & Bharti came to tell people about the way that they have encouraged people in their community to use the website. They introduced users to an interesting member of their community, Barbara Sheppard, who writes stories for her grandchildren. They explained that Barbara was wary of computers but they have helped her to start adding her stories to the Birstall website and now she has a large collection with illustrations. This is a wonderful example of how the site can affect people. Terry Fleming and Tony Geary - HobyTony and Terry were hoping to be able to talk to the users at the event but unfortunately due to the sessions running slightly late and them having to leave early they weren't able to give a presentation. They have been kind enough to send us some words about their project and we have promised them top billing at next year's event.
